Augmented Reality

Nowadays, both people and enterprises are starting to discover the benefits of this technology. You must be wondering why it is so special. AR creates a whole new world for the users through their smartphones camera.

Applications using Augmented Reality integrate virtual messages, pictures, videos or 3D animations into the real, physical world, which can be viewed on the phone’s screen.

We differentiate the Augmented Reality’s type depending on what activates the extra content on the device. The marker, what activates the AR can be a picture, an object or even a GPS coordinate, too. The new opportunities given by the technology can be utilized in many industry. The utilization of the technology is the most widespread in the sales and marketing sector due to AR’s great commercial value. Also, there are great examples from other industries.

According to Mashable “Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.”

In order to raise user experience we have used this technology in 3 of our applications.

Memopoint Győr

The application invites the user to travel in time, because the app shows the last century appearance of certain buildings and parts of the city in their current environment. The app projects the buildings’ old pictures on the screen according to the device’s GPS coordinates, which are marked on a map. Navigation helps the users to find their ways, which is also built on Augmented Reality. The app is currently available on iOS and Android in English and Hungarian languages. With this technology historical locations, virtual battles and future construction projects can be visualized. Moreover, ads can be assigned to the locations. Learn more.

Idoo

Idoo is a fitness application, which enables the user to train with the assistance of a virtual personal trainer anytime, anywhere. The app give the users exact feedback about how efficiently they have performed the excercise. The users can bring their personal trainer to life with Augmented Reality. In order to try this out, they have to direct their phone’s camera to a marker. It can be printed out and placed anywhere. In this way the trainer shows excercise in 3D and in 360°. Users can choose their personal trainer, and they can personalize it (hair colour, stlye, clothes, etc.). Click for the video!
Idoo is the advanced version of our previous development, ‘5 Minutes Break’. The original application took part in an app competition in California, called ‘Move Your App Challange’ which was organised by Snaptic. According to the jury the app won the 4th place, and according to the audience’s votes it won the 2nd place in 2010.
